Welcome to the Glasgow Life Volunteering site for opportunities within Glasgow Museums - some of the best in the world!
Glasgow Museums’ volunteering programme pairs enthusiastic and passionate volunteers with opportunities to volunteer in some of Glasgow’s richest cultural venues. Our Volunteer Guides showcase our treasured Museums Collections in guided tours; Learning & Access Volunteers assist staff who deliver a range of workshops to families and schools; Volunteer Researchers & Curatorial Volunteers research object history and donors to our collections, catalogue objects and assist with exhibitions; Event Volunteers help with some of our biggest events, such as welcoming and wayfinding at our annual Great Big Museum Bus Tour and our Volunteer Conservators assist staff to care and preserve our Museum displays.
Glasgow Museums offer something for everyone. Whether you want to volunteer with the collections, assisting the public or share your knowledge about art or history, there is a museum volunteering opportunity for you and it has never been easier - sign up today!
"Volunteering as a Burrell Guide gives me an overall sense of worth by allowing me to help the community, meet and talk with a wide range of people and keep my brain working. All important reasons but the bottom line… it makes me happy!"
Burrell Volunteer Guide
"I volunteered 3 days as a Volunteer Transcriber with the Open Museum, a day as an Events Volunteer on the Great Big Museum Bus Tour and 28 days as a Collections Volunteer in Maryhill Stores. As a Museum Studies Graduate, I was keen to gain cross-departmental, practical experience and assisted many Glasgow Museums colleagues over the period of a year."
